Compare Providers and Plans

The following statistics are 5 datasets provided by the CMS – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  By using these datasets, all called Compare, you can compare providers and plans across the United States.

 

Official Hospital Compare Data
These are the official datasets used on the Medicare.gov Hospital Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These data allow you to compare the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country.
You can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care. The information on Hospital Compare:
• Can help you make decisions about where you get your health care
• Encourages hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide
Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) , in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other Federal agencies.

Official Nursing Home Compare Data
These are the official datasets used on the Medicare.gov Nursing Home Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These data allow you to compare the quality of care at every Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country, including over 15,000 nationwide.

Official Physician Compare Data
This is the official dataset associated with the Medicare.gov Physician Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). These data give you useful information about the physicians and other healthcare professionals currently enrolled in Medicare. Currently, Physician Compare includes general information, such as demographic information and Medicare quality program participation. Quality of care measure data will be added to the site and to this database in 2014.
Physician Compare gives you information to help you make informed healthcare decisions. On Physician Compare, you can find out which Physicians, Other Healthcare Professionals, and Group Practices take part in Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality programs.
At this time, you can find an indicator on the Profile Page showing participation in:
• Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), including the Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO);
• Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program; and
• Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program.
In the future, CMS will add information on participation in other quality programs to Physician Compare.
Beginning in 2014, Physician Compare will also include quality of care ratings for Group Practices. Ratings for individuals will be added in the future.

Official Home Health Compare Data
These are the official datasets used on the Medicare.gov Home Health Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These data allow you to compare the quality of care provided by Medicare-certified home health agencies throughout the nation.
“Medicare-certified” means the home health agency is approved by Medicare and meets certain Federal health and safety requirements.
Home Health Compare can help you or your family or friends choose a quality home health agency that has the skilled home health services you need. The information on Home Health Compare:
• Helps you learn how well home health agencies care for their patients
• Shows you how often each agency used best practices when caring for its patients and whether patients improved in certain important areas of care
• Shows you what other patients said about their recent home health care experience.

Official Dialysis Facility Compare Data
These are the official datasets used on the Medicare.gov Dialysis Facility Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These data allow you to compare the quality of care provided in Medicare-certified dialysis facilities nationwide.
You can compare the services and the quality of care that facilities provide. It also has other resources for patients and family members who want to learn more about chronic kidney disease and dialysis.
